NOTES
Additional Information:The two story brick building has stilted arch windows and brick corbelling. During the last few years the exterior has been altered. A portion of the north facade has been covered with a wood shingle canopy and psuedo half timbering fenestration on the second floor has also been altered. Peter and Henrietta Coppes came from Holland in 1871 locating in Hollandtown, Wisconsin. Peter was a contractor and builder doing much of his work in Kaukauna. Peter became partners with his son, John, until Peter's death in 1897. John Coppes continued to build up the business so he hired 30-40 additional skilled mechanics to assist with the work being done through-out Wisconsin and Michigan. John served as alderman for eleven years, as City Treasurer from 1906-08, was elected Treasurer of Outagamie County in 1910, and served as Mayor of Kaukauna from 1910-1915. While Mayor, Coppes secured the Outagamie County College for Kaukauna. Built in 1890, the Coppes family resided in the building until 1940 but continued to own the building until 1960. PREVIOUS OWNERS: Peter Coppes (1897-1960); Eliz. M. Ives (1961-1979); Raymond Gerow (1980-1982).
