Additional Information: | 2007 Survey - This building has been modified with two subsequent additions on east elevation. 1st addition predates 1976. 2nd addition has been added since it was previously surveyed in 1979. The original section of this two-story, brick building features a stepped parapet that is accentuated with corbelled brick and features a center concrete nameplate that says "Town Hall Fire Station." The facade has original, six-over-six, double-hung windows on the second story, while the original first-story garage bay has been enclosed with brick and a pair of fixed, three-pane replacement windows. The southwest corner of the building has a cutaway corner entrance with two original wood doors. A flat-roof brick addition is located on the east elevation. This addition has been altered with the enclosure of a garage bay with brick, modern windows, and a modern door. A second brick addition raised the roofline of the first addition and added two garage bays. Resurveyed November 2012; changes include the enclosure of the recessed front entrance. This 2-story Commercial Vernacular village hall and fire station was constructed in 1923 with two recently-constructed additions. The building is rectangular in plan with brick walls and a flat roof; the 1923 mass also has a stepped parapet. The front elevation faces south and is asymmetrical in plan. The building consists of the original 1923 Commercial Vernacular hall with a c.1970 addition to the east elevation and a later addition to the east elevation of this. The facade of the original building contains the ghost of an earlier garage bay; this opening has been bricked over and two large, 3-pane windows have been added. The southwest corner contains a recessed entry that has been recently enclosed with plate glass windows and a glass door. The second story of the original building contains five regularly-spaced 6-over-6 windows with a stone panel above that reads "TOWN HALL / FIRE STATION." The middle addition contains a large 4-pane window, a pair of glass doors and two garage bays with overhead metal doors. The easternmost addition contains two taller garage bays with overhead metal doors. |
