Additional Information: | This two and one-half story house has a steeply-pitched hip roof with flared eaves and Palladian window dormers projecting from all four sides. These windows were filled with glazing with decorative muntins and fanlights. The house is covered with very narrow clapboards. A front porch spans the entire front wall. It features a wooden balustrade supporting grouped square columns that support a hip roof. Above the entrance is a balcony set into the porch roof. This building is architecturally significant as a good example of a Prairie style house with some Colonial Revival details. The horizontal lines of the building reflect the Prairie style, while the Palladian dormers and front porch suggest the Colonial Revival style. The high level of preservation of this building adds to its distinctive character. This house was the home of Henry and Louise Moore between 1905 and 1942. Henry Moore was the president of the Moore and Galloway Lumber Company, a successful lumber mill in the city. Initial research suggests that this house is not historically significant. Further research may uncover information that makes the house significant in the future. |
