Additional Information: | This large Queen Anne house features a steeply-pitched gable roof with broad gable ends that are shingled and decorated with Palladian windows. The rest of the house is clad with clapboards. The main entry porch is a two-story structure with a limestone foundation, wooden piers, and grouped round columns. The roof is accented with a pediment. The upper story consists of a shingled balustrade and plain columns. This house is architecturally significant because it is a good example of the Queen Anne style. While not as elaborately detailed as many examples of the style, this house has the overall form and massing and the irregular details that are a hallmark of the style. This was the home of Daniel and Grace Sutherland between 1899 and 1942. Daniel Sutherland was an attorney. Initial research indicates that this house is not historically significant. Further research may uncover information that makes it significant in the future. |
