Additional Information: | This three-story brick building sits on a corner lot. It features a brick corbelled cornice with a parapet at the corner that states "P.B. Haber Printing House." Windows are simple single-light sashes that are decorated with segmental arches. The building sits on a fine limestone foundation. The entrance is at the corner of the building and features a transom under an elliptically arched opening. This building is a good example of the Commercial Vernacular form. Its simple brick corbelling and arched windows are common features of this simple form. This building housed the P.B. Haber print shop. It was also the print shop for the Fond du Lac Commonwealth, later Commonwealth Reporter, the most successful newspaper in Fond du Lac. Previously surveyed in 1988. 2010-2011 survey results: The P.B. Haber Building housed not only the printing establishment of the same name, but was also the printer of The Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter, which was established in 1926 when The Daily Commonwealth (which had also been published at the Haber establishment) and The Reporter merged. Also, in a third-floor studio of the building the radio station KFIZ was born in 1923. |
