Additional Information: | This two-story front gable form house has a low-pitched gable roof decorated with a narrow frieze. The windows are decorated with cornice lintels, as is the front entrance. A later-added front porch with round columns covers the front facade. A carriage house with hip roof, decorative cupola, and paneled frieze sits at the rear of the property. The form and massing of the house, along with the window details are typical of late Italianate vernacular houses. This house is a good example of how even a simple house can have details that dress it up. The carriage house at the rear of the property is especially significant and more detailed than the house. This house was the home of Edward B. Hunting, a merchant, between 1884 and 1887. It was the long-time home of John Hamilton, a railroad clerk, between 1893 and 1919. This house is not historically significant at this time. |
