NOTES
Additional Information:28 N. Main St. was the German-American Bank that was originally constructed around 1873 and remodeled around 1980. According to a report in 2008 the facade had been "recently" restored with reproduction cornice trim, corbels, and lintel trim reproduced from old photographs showing original trim. 30 N. Main St. was constructed as a saloon around 1900.

28 N Main Street was built circa 1873 as the German American Savings Bank. The rear of the building is a red brick commercial vernacular style with a one story addition added in the 1960s.

The bank was originally chartered in 1865 by Rudolph Ebert and John C. Perry as a private bank. As business increased, it was incorporated in September 1873 as a savings bank. In 1873, the bank building was built and organized as a private savings bank catering to Fond du Lac's German speaking population. The bank was capitalized in 1873 with $25,000. Bank president Rudolph Ebert had the building at 28 N Main Street built for the newly organized bank. Prominent Fond du Lac investors of the time included Mr. Ebert, Frederick Rueping, William Rueping, Louis Muenter, J.C. Perry, Alexander McDonald, and Franz Lauenstein. Some of these gentlemen were also on the Board of Directors.

The bank did general bank business, bought and sold foreign exchange, and had the agency for three ocean steam ships.

This property is within the North Main Historic District. The original building used the address 390 Main St.
