NOTES
Additional Information:Photo code #1: 74FD-28/5.

This one story service station is constructed of concrete blocks and has details that suggest the Art Deco style of architecture. The station consists of a customer service area and a two-bay garage area. The station is decorated at the corners and flanking openings by fluted pilasters. In three places at the upper level of the building there are parapets. Two are decorated with arches with a stylized sunburst design. A third parapet is decorated with a stylized wheel design. The fluted pilasters and parapets all stress verticality, a hallmark of the style.

This building is a fine and interesting example of an early twentieth century service station with outstanding Art Deco decoration. Many early twentieth century service stations were designed with details that suggested unusual architectural styles popular at the time. These designs were meant to give this basically utilitarian building a flair that would attract customers. The use of the Art Deco style is unusual, and in this building, very nicely executed.

This building was constructed in the early 20th century, but an exact date is unknown.
