Additional Information: | A red brick building with cast stone and wood trim, this vernacular church building has romanesque-arched windows and a pedimented entry porch. A one-story frame building attached to the northeast corner is an older structure that may have served as a chapel. Few in number, the Catholics of Galesville heard masses in the Lawson Home during the 1860s and attended the churches of Ettrick, Trempealeau and Pine Creek during the '70's. For the next two decades, they held regular services in Czepull's Hall in Galesville, until this structure was built on a site donated by Capt. A.A. Arnold. When the present St. Mary's Church was built in 1953, the church was sold to the Rowles-McBride Post, American Legion, and served as a clubhouse for that organization. |
