Additional Information: | This two story Commercial Vernacular style building is constructed of red brick that has been painted on the southern two thirds of the building. The building has a cornice of brick corbelling that includes rows of sawtooth, checkerboard, and "brackets" above the upper story windows. Only the windows of the northern one third of the building still have glazIng, but it is a modern single pane of tinted glass. The other upper floor windows have been enclosed. On the northern one third of the buiding, the windows have been enclosed. On the northern one third of the building, the windows are decorated with segmental arches. The storefronts of this building are all remodeled with modern show windows and vertical wood siding. This building has some architectural interest as an example of the commercial vernacular form of common architecture. This building has housed numerous businesses over the years including saloons, meat markets, a hardware store, a drug store, and, during the mid-twentieth century, the Holman furniture store, which took up two thirds of the building. This building has some historical interest as an example of a commercial business block. |
