NOTES
Additional Information:This three-story commercial vernacular building features a flat roof, a cornice of inset squares and rectangles, windows with label moldings and tall keystones, and an elliptically arched entrance.

This building is typical of how popular stylistic details (in this case, the Italianate style) were used to dress up a fairly ordinary building. It also contributes to the overall architectural significance of the proposed Forest Avenue Commercial Historic District.

This building was constructed for the U.S. Post Office in 1869. It was used as such until the post office on W. First Street was constructed in 1937. It was also used as an office and commercial building.

This building is historically significant for its association as the first building constructed especially for the Post Office in Fond du Lac. As was typical of that era, the post office was usually housed in a commercial building downtown. This building, its additional office and commercial space is a good example of this principle. The post office was the most prominent representative of the federal government in the community. The building also contributes to the overall historical significance of the proposed Forest Avenue Commercial Historic District.

Previously surveyed in 1988.

2010-2011 survey results:

The P.B. Haber Building housed not only the printing establishment of the same name, but was also the printer of The Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter, which was established in 1926 when The Daily Commonwealth (which had also been published at the Haber establishment) and The Reporter merged. Also, in a third-floor studio of the building the radio station KFIZ was born in 1923.
