Additional Information: | A one-story rubble building which has served as a knitting factory, store, power house, municipal building, and now a museum. "Constructed of roughly cut sandstone blocks, this building was built for use as a village meeting hall, fire house, and electric light plant. A jail was added to the south side in 1912. Between 1905 and 1915 an addition on the west was built to store coal and village equipment. An early village well was located between the building and the street. The steel tower in the illustration held a fire alarm bell and later a siren. The generation of electricity was discontinued in 1913, but the village continued to use this building for its offices, utility services, and fire house until 1970. In 1973, after acquiring new facilities, the village allowed the Mazomanie Historical Society to use it as a museum." Mazomanie Downtown Historic District, Mazomanie Historical Society, 1993. |
