Additional Information: | This two and one-half story Queen Anne house fetaures a steeply-pitched intersecting gable roof. There is a stucco and wood covering in the gable ends and in the dormer that is applied in a half-timber manner. The upper story of the house is shingled, while the lower story is covered with clapboards. There is a small bay on one side of the house, while on the other side is a porch with a sloping roof, grouped square columns, and a sided balustrade. Windows are largely single lights with multiple upper lights. The dormer has two multi-light casements. This house is a good example of a variation of the Queen Anne style, with elements that suggest both the Tudor Revival style and the Shingle Style. The half-timbered effect in the gables suggests the Tudor, while the broad gables and the shingled upper story reflect the Shingle Style. These details illustrate how the Queen Anne style often featured elements of many styles, making the building complex. The house contributes to the proposed Sheboygan Street Historic District. This was the home of Frank and Cyrus Chadbourne, and attorney and photographer, respectively, between 1899 and 1907. This house is not historically significant at this time. Further research may uncover information that makes it significant in the future. |
