Additional Information: | THIS BUILDING WAS NOT REPHOTOGRAPHED FOR THE 2005 SURVEY. No change in 2015. The previously inventoried resource is a two-story red brick commercial vemacular building on a coursed stone foundation, constructed between 1898 and 1904 (Figure 3). 1 The building has a rectilinear footprint with a cutaway northwest comer. The building's roof is flat and encircled by a parapet that is stepped on the south elevation and contiguous on the facade and north elevation. Brick panels and dentils create a frieze below the parapet on the facade and north elevation. A metal beam with bull's eye reinforcing plates divides the facade's first and second stories. The windows are generally one-over-one replacement vinyl units with brick hoods and limestone sills. The exception is the first story fa9ade windows which are single light tinted square windows, sheltered by modem fabric awnings. The primary entrance to the building is on the cutaway comer. It consists of a modem glazed metal door sheltered by a modem fabric awning and is accessed by a small wood deck. A secondary entrance is located on the north elevation. It consist of a door opening framed by a brick hood with a partially glazed wood replacement door, it is accessed by a concrete stoop with wrought iron rails. A single story addition wraps around the east and part of the south elevations. The addition is one story with a flat roof and constructed of concrete block. A second story shed roof component has been added to the addition's south elevation; it is clad in standing seam metal. The building is in good condition and retains elements of its tum-of-the-century commercial vemacular design, including the brick window hoods and corbeled brick comice. However, it is a typical example of a commercial building from the period. It also exhibits alterations and diminished integrity such as a rear addition, replacement windows, and reduced window openings. The commercial building is not eligible for the National Register. A Determination of Eligibility is not recommended. |
