Additional Information: | 1995- "Clapboard, vernacular, ca. 1875, one-and-one-half story, T-plan farmhouse with enclosed porch across the front of the side wing and a long, one-story wing with enclosed entrance vestibule to west. The windows on the main section have shallow triangular architraves and roof slopes are steeper than usual. The land was owned by J. H. Rountree in 1874 and no house is shown. Rountree had extensive holdings in the Platteville area. Later (from before 1895 to after 1928) this was the Kingeter family's "Fair View Farm." The main section of this house is fairly intact but of no particular architectural significance. This site was surveyed because of the unusual one-story wing which, by its diminutive simple form and lack of roof overhangs, looks like it could be very old. The fact that subsequent research shows that the house probably did not exist until sometime after 1874 and the property at that time was owned by an investor-owner puts doubt on that possibility." -"USH 151, Dickeyville to Belmont", WisDOT# 1209-02-00, Prepared by Katherine Hundt Rankin (Preservation Consultant) for Rust Environment & Infrastructure Inc, 1995. |
