Additional Information: | 1995- "Orange brick, vernacular, ca. 1930, one-story gas station, flat-roofed, with unusual masonry, including random ashlar limestone foundation wall with random stones added to brickwork above basement story; header course of dark red bricks above stone foundation, including triangular "quoins" at each corner; inset diamonds of black-and-white marble mosaic in brick cornice. The form of the building is of an office section with a polygonal bay across the front. In the bay are three large double-hung windows with a horizontal muntin bar in each sash. The side wing probably included a service bay. A glass enclosed porch with a shed roof has been affixed to the front of the side wing, but the original exterior wall of the side wing is still clearly visible inside. The history of this building is unknown. This building retains unusually fine and distinctive masonry for a gas station. Further research would be needed to document its history and integrity." -"USH 151, Dickeyville to Belmont", WisDOT# 1209-02-00, Prepared by Katherine Hundt Rankin (Preservation Consultant) for Rust Environment & Infrastructure Inc, 1995. |
