NOTES
Additional Information:Statz was a quarry operator. Peters was a librarian at the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Brock: "This solid stone house is one of the oldest houses in the village. It was built by Joseph Statz, a German immigrant, about 1855. Statz probably opened up the large quarry above his house soon after he arrived from Prussia. Statz, who raised a large family on the property, died in 1888 and the stone house was then acquired by builder David Stephens, who rented it to various quarry workers . in the early 1930s the property was purchased by Forest and Leonore Middleton. For some years the Middletons ran the "Mouse-Around Gist Shop" in their house. Before Tally Ho Lane was extended through here, the house had a Highbury Road address."
