NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. ORIGINAL STOREFRONT W/2-TONE BRICKWORK, STILTED MOULDED WINDOW HOODS, BRACKETED CORNICE. OLD LUMBER SHED HAS GABLE ROOF AND FALSE FRONT W/PAIRED BRACKETS. OTHER SHED W/PAINTING COMMISSIONED BY WAUNAKEE HIST. SOC.

THIS COMMERCIAL VERNACULAR BUILDING'S MAIN FACADE HAS NOW BEEN RESTORED. THE ADJACENT LUMBERYARD BUILDINGS SURROUNDING IT, HOWEVER, WERE GREATLY MODIFIED IN 2006-2007 AND NO LONGER RETAIN THEIR HISTORIC APPEARANCE.

2008- "This previously surveyed two-story-tall, rectilinear plan Commercial Vernacular form building has a main facade that faces north onto E. Main St. This facade has two parts, a wider portion located to the right (west) that has a symmetrical design and a less wide portion to the left (east) that has an asymmetrical design. The entire first story of the wider right-hand portion consists of a single storefront that consists of two large display windows that flank an inset, centered entrance that is itself flanked by canted display windows. The second story above is faced in cream brick and it features a centered pair of flat-arched window openings that is flanked by two single flat-arched windows. This story is then crowned by an elaborate and highly intact cornice that hides the north gable end of this portion's gable roof from view.

The first story of the less wide left-hand portion of the building's facade consists of two large display windows and its second story is also clad in cream brick. The second story of this portion is asymmetrical in design, however, and has a single flat-arched window opening positioned to the right and two more that are positioned to the left. This portion still retains its original cornice as well, although it is notably less elaborate then the one that crowns the wider portion. Similarities in the materials that were used and the presence of numerous identical design features suggest that these portions were probably built for the same owner but at slightly different times and since the overall length of the less wide portion of the building is not as long as the wider portion it may be that this portion represents an expansion that was built when the business prospered."
