August Schoengarth constructed this hotel in 1893 (datestone), presumably using bricks from his brickyard. The hotel's proximity to the station and to the industrial core of Neillsville (including Novelty Manufacturing, lumber yards, furniture factory, cannery and grain mills) provided ready business for the hotel.

2016- "Ed and Peter Weber built this hotel on the south boundary of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railroad. The Neillsville Depot was less than a block away. The choice of name produced the perceived notion that the hotel was connected with the railroad. This two story brick hotel contained a saloon, a small lobby, a small dining room, a kitchen and salesman's sample room. Rooms on the second floor were rented for $1.50 per night. IN 1908 James Paulus purchased the hotel and changed the name to the Paulus Hotel. In the 1920's the hotel became the Hamilton Hotel. It is currently being renovated."
