2016- "This home was built in 1885 in the Italianate style by the Montgomery family in one of Neillsvilles' most desirable nieghborhoods of the time. In the 1890s, shortly after the home's construction, the property was purchsed by Bernhard and Bertha Tragsdorf. Bernhard Tragsdorf and R.W. Balch owned and operated a general merchandise business. Tragsdorf's original home the "Central House" (a hotel formerly on the same site as the "Merchants Hotel") blew across town and ignited the fire. Bernhard's oldest son, William, was a stenographer to the Governor of the Panama Canal during the Canal's construction. William Tragsdorf retired and came back to Neillsville and built "Trag's Theatre", Neillsville's first, on Hewett Street around 1918."
