SEE COMPLIANCE FILE,ROUND ARCH WINDOWS AND DOORDENTILLED CORNICE SEE NRHP FORM FOR PHOTO [Date Cnst:-1916] ORIGINALLY OCCUPIED 6/1918. GRAY BRICK ONE-STORY NEO-CLASSICAL REVIVAL BUILDING WITH LIMESTONE TRIM, ROUND-ARCHED WINDOWS AND DOOR, DENTICULATED CORNICE; A SIMPLY DESIGNED BUT MOUNMENTAL LANDMARK IN FORT ATKINSON. IN 1915 THE FORT ATKINSON POST OFFOCE HAD THE DISTINCTION OF DOING MORE BUSINESS THAN POST OFFICE IN ANY OTHER CITY OF ITS SIZE IN THE COUNTRY. THIS WAS OF COURSE IN AN EARLIER POST OFFICE BUILDING BUT SHOWS, NEVERTHELESS, THE IMPORTANCE OF THE POST OFFICE TO THE CITIZENS OF FORT ATKINSON. |
