ENCLOSED 2 STORY INSET PORCH. This house was built in 1889 for George Kispert. Born in 1885 in Jefferson, Kispert began his nearly sixty-year career with the local Farmers & Merchants Bank in 1873 as a clerk. The bank was organized that same year and grew to be one of the largest banks in Jefferson County. He eventually rose to the position of managing cashier. In addition to that position, Kispert served as president of the Jefferson School Board for thirty-six years. He is noted for directing a significant school building initiative within the city. Specifically, two high schools as well as several other smaller facilities were constructed under his tenure. He died in 1932. Soon after his death, the property was sold to Louise K. Smith, who later passed it on to Anna Puerner in 1939. Puerner sold the property to James Kiesler sometime between 1945 and 1950. |
