Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled Lake Mills Downtown Commercial Historic District exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. This two-and-one-half-story commercial vernacular building was constructed in 1890 by Walter & Otto Gericke. The building is clad in cream brick and rests on a fieldstone foundation. It has a flat roof with gable parapet, simple cornice, and entablature with brick parapets, corbeling, patterned brick, and circular date plate with “1890.” The front (north) facade features a canted recessed entryway flanked by single-pane, fixed storefront windows with multi-light transoms and circular cast iron parapets. A recessed entrance located at the northwest corner of the front facade features a wood panel door with a fixed light and transom. A metal ornamented beam with decorative brackets and semi-circular details spans the length of the front facade separating the first and second floor. Windows on the second-floor are tall and narrow replacement one-over-one, double-hung sash. The original stone sills and brick lintels, simple stone cap, and brick belt course remain. Windows on the side (west and east) elevations have been downsized, but retain the segmented arch lintel. 1974- FALSE GABLE. BRICKWORK UNDER CORNICE. |
