Additional Information: | 2014: The two-and-one-half-story Schultz Cottage Inn Hotel was constructed by Mary Schultz in 1906. It is of frame construction, sheathed in clapboard, and rests on a raised rusticated concrete block foundation. The hip roof is covered with asphalt shingles and features gable wall dormers clad in wood shake shingles and a simple wood cornice. The front (east) facade is dominated by a two-story porch with flat roof, simple cornice, and dentils supported by full-height classical columns. A set of concrete stairs with closed rail balustrade lead to the main entry with sidelights centered on the front facade. The first-floor facade also features multi-light French doors with sidelights and transoms, and a closed balustrade. The second story of the facade also features an entry; paired, one-over-one, double-hung sash and awning windows; and simple wood open rail balustrade. The clapboard on the side (south) elevation has been replaced with asbestos siding. Remaining windows are one-over-one, double-hung sash with simple wood surrounds. The hotel currently functions as an apartment building. Based on the June 2014 site visit, the first floor of the interior appears to retain its original configuration, including a sitting room, front desk/reception area, and staircase with wood newel and spindlework railing. |
