Additional Information: | Previously surveyed in 1986. This building was constructed in the 1920s as a doctor's clinic. This building has some historical interest because it was the location of doctor's offices during a time when medicine was becoming more specialized and doctor's clinics were just emerging on the scene. However, due to the inappropriate alteration of the building, it probably, at present, does not meet the criteria for local history. Originally built with a flat roof in the 1920s by Dr. Coron for his medical practice, this one-story beige and rust brick, art moderne influenced building has been greatly altered by the addition of a gable roof with modern, metal, vertical siding on the gable end. Masonry quoins on the corners of the main structure and projecting facade, masonry window surrounds and belt course and white masonry foundation articulate the brick facade, The historic physician's symbols are pressed into the masonry lintel above the facade windows and entrance door. Small, neon lights flanked the entrance featuring a replacement metal door. The Coron Clinic has been altered further by the replacement of the original windows with smaller windows and board panels. The Coron Clinic building characterized by stylized, low relief decoration and a stepped back facade exhibits the influence of the early Modern Art Deco and Art Moderne Styles. Because of the unsympathetic alteration of the roof, the Coron Clinic is not architecturally significant. However, this building contributes to the historic character of the Main Street Commercial Historic District. |
