NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Built of cream brick, this eclectic lumberyard building features steep gable ends; raised brick cornice along the gable ends; corbelled brick cornice under the eaves and steep gable roofed dormers. A round arched half-window or fan-shaped window in the front gable with raised brick moulding, rough masonry sashes on the upper half-story further characterize this building. Many of the windows on the lower story have been filled in. Related buildings: 56/2,3 - separate records. The West Side Lumber Yard building is significant under criterion C as an example of a commercial building influenced by the Period Revival for the early 20th century. One of several good examples of commercial architecture influenced by historic styles in the early 20th century, this building has been altered, particularly on the lower story, lessening its architectural significance somewhat.
