Additional Information: | 2023: The Herman Grutzmacher House is a two-story single-family residence constructed circa 1900 and originally featured subtle characteristics of the Stick and Queen Anne styles including decorative panels below the window bays, vertical strips at the sides of paired window bays, patterned wood shingle in the gable end, spindle-work, and barge boards. The residence is T-shaped in plan with a cross-gabled roof. The principal elevation faces south toward Karlstad Drive; however, the primary and secondary entrances are in the east eave wall elevations, perpendicular to Karlstad Drive. Mature cypress and pine trees partially obscure the residence from the roadway. A portion of the foundation rises above the surrounding grade and has been clad in an uncoursed stone veneer. The exterior of the house has been re-clad in vinyl siding, and non-original wood shingle has been applied below the window bays. However, the gable end retains the original patterned wood single, barge boards, and spindle-work. The windows are non-original one-over-one hung sash windows; the exterior casings have also been covered with vinyl. An exterior brick chimney is attached to the west gable end wall and pierces through the south facing roof slope of the cross-gabled roof. A one-story, open-air porch spans the east elevation of the rear gabled volume of the house. There is one extant outbuilding on the property that is east of the residence. It is one-story, square in plan with a pyramidal roof that was constructed circa 1900. The building is constructed of rock-faced concrete block and features an interior stone veneered chimney that rises from the south roof slope. A single door and window are off center in the south elevation. Further east on the property, there is a masonry foundation of a barn. 1975: BARGE BOARDS AND WOOD SHINGLES IN GABLES |
