NOTES
Additional Information:Sanborn-Perris maps show that this two-story brick Twentieth Century Commercial Style building was built between 1922 and 1933. In 1922 this building was occupied by the Star Motion Picture Theatre (capacity of 380), but in 1933 it was used as the Vernon County National Guard Armory.

1995- "Sanborn maps show that tlus two-story Twentieth Century commercial Style building was constructed between 1911 and 1922. The building is rectilinear in plan, measures 110-feeL-deep x 30-teet-wide, has a concrete foundation, and has exterior walls that are clad 1n bnck over hollow tile. 'l'he main facade ot the building faces west onto Main Street and historic photos snow that It was originally symmetrical in design and had a nearly full-width first story storefront. This storefront consisted of two large display windows that flanked a recessed and centered entrance containing a pair ot entrance doors, and the entire storefront was surmounted by a prism glass transom. Today, though, two stores occupy the first story and the entire original storefront has now neen replaced with ones constructed out ot modern elements.

The second story of the building 1s entirely intact, however, and it is three-bays-wide, with the center bay containing a s1ng1e one-over-one-light double hung window that is positioned slightly hiqher than other two window openings that flank it. These openings both contain a pair ot eight-light casement windows and historic photos show that the windows that these three openings contain are all original to the building. The facade is then terminated by a stepped parapet wall.

The early history of this building is unknown, but Sanborn maps show that by 1922 it was the Star Motion Picture Theatre (capacity of 380) and that by 1933 it was used as the Vernon County National Guard Armory. Today, the building houses the Star Beauty Salon and Buzzy's Home furnishings and it is considered to be a contributing resource in the district."
