Bibliographic References: | On 3 December 1887, the Ashland Press reported the building for the year. In the list was the house for M.C. Mackenzie at 8th Avenue at 8th Street (value, $1,200), which, when compared to deed information, is this house. This was one of the many lots that was owned by the Osborn Home Association. Based on the deed transfer date, it appears that the house was built by the OHA and then turned over to McKenzie. The 1890 city directory confirms Mack MacKenzie's occupation of the house (he is cited as a warehouseman for the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railroad. On 1 October 1887, The Ashland Press also reads: "William MacKenzie has purchased lot 7, Block 16 of the Frank Osborn Home Association and has begun erection of a new and handsome residence." Although the paper incorrectly cited William Mackenzie as the owner (William was indeed boarding at the house per 1890 city directory information), the legal description confirms that this is the correct house. |
