Additional Information: | A well-preserved rectangular plan two-story-plus-attic house sided with clapboard with a flat hip roof pierced in front by a small gabled roof dormer richly decorated with shingles and a sun-ray motif. Front sunporch at entry; windows are original and extend to eaves on second story. According to city directories (1890), Frank Hazard was an agent for the Milwaukee Lakeshore & Western Railroad. Hazard and his wife Sarah owned the house until selling it to Sarah V. Clarke in 1901 (63/547, #14202). |

Bibliographic References: | [A] ASHLAND ASSESSOR'S CARD On 3 December 1887, The Ashland Press reported building construction for the year and in the list was this house by F. C. Haz(z)ard, valued at $1,400. Deed information confirms the Hazard purchase from the Osborn Home Association in August 1888, following the home's construction (36/62, #9641). As well, the paper reported on 1 October 1887, page 3, col. 3: "Work has commenced on a new dwelling for Frank Hazard on Lot 10, Block 16 in the Osborn Home Association addition," futher acknowledging its construction. |
