As of 1988 in The First Settlement Neighborhood: A Walking Tour: "German immigrant Daniel Kessler, a tailor, and his wife Henrietta built this simple house of Madison red brick in 1854. Larger and more pretentious house built in a similar four-square plan include the Stoner house at 321 S. Hamilton, the Slaughter-Shuttleworth house at 946 Spaight and the Kendall House at 104 E. Gilman. Kessler's brother lived here and in a home the family built next door at 135 S. Franklin (demolished)." |
