NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' titled "J. Greenebaum Tannery" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. The original section of the building was built for the Western Hardware and Manufacturing Company, a stove factory owned by Joseph Bach. By 1909, the factory was owned by the Milwaukee Metal Bed Company. It was sold in 1912 to the Milwaukee Patent Leather Company which used the building to manufacture shoe leather. In 1923, the J. Greenebaum Tannery moved into the building and over the next decade, constructed numerous additions. From the late 1950s through the 1990s the building was occupied by a variety of different businesses until it was sold in 2001 to Alton Enterprises, who renamed it Hide House. It is currently mixed business- and residential-use. 2016: resurveyed, appearance unchanged. Mead & Hunt.
