It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 1973: "This example of Victorian architecture was a rather large building for its time, and remain in good condition today. Throughout its history the building has been used for social services. Estimated cost of the structure at the time of its construction is given as $12,000, as stated in the 1881 History of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Alterations and Additions (as of 1973): The interior of the building has been modernized. Permit No. 54, July 28, 1890, permit to build three story addition for owner St. Vincent Society; cost $21,000; architect, Edward Townsend Mix; mason, H. Schlingsted; and carpenter, R. Reisen; all brick. Permit No. 6060, October 21, 1900, permit to build all brick addition for owner St. Vincent Society; cost $8,000; architect, Charles Crane; builder, Henry Hove. Permit No. 1681, August 10, 1894, permit to build wood addition for owner St. Vincent Society; cost $6,000; architect, Nicholas Dornbach. Builders: Christian Templin, mason; Carl Weidner, carpenter; Peter Schmidt, stone cutter; W.E. Goodman, gasfitter."
