Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. "Of 19th century Milwaukee's many wood-framed houses of worship only a small number have survived. Among those still in use by south side congregations are the Christian Science Society on South Superior and Zion United Church on West Greenfield. In plan, elevations, and Gothic-derived details, the present church calls to mind such earlier south side churches as the former Salem Evangelical Church and Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran, but its white-painted wood frame and narrow clapboard siding create a lean, crisp linear character quite different from that of these brick buildings. The congregation's history goes back four years before construction of the Greenfield Avenue church when Zion Evangelical Church was founded. Since 1883 the group has merged with several other congregations and a decade ago became Zion United Church." Pagel, Mary Ellen & Virginia A.
