Additional Information: | Photo code #2: 75BR-12/2 Excellent example with first floor sided in rock-faced brick. A wide band of fishscale wood shingles encircles the house between the first floor window lintels and the second floor sills. The second floor is sided in staggered course wooden shingles and is topped by a wide plain freize band below the eaves. The gable ends and the third floor of the circular tower are sided in diamond pattern wood shingles. A wide veranda encircles the northeast corner of the house and covers the fine entrance door with its leaded and bevelled glass side lite. A gablet set in the veranda roof identifies the entrance and the gablet end is sided in diamond pattern wood shingles. The veranda is supported by six large Tuscan Order columns on brick pedestals. The wrought iron balustrade is modern. The southwest corner of the main facade has a three-story-tall circular tower having a cone shaped roof. The tower is sided in the same manner as the house. Two tall gable roof polygonal ells face north and south respectively, and have gable roofs with flared eaves supported by brackets. A shallow polygonal two-story-tall bay window is placed under the main eaves to the right of the main entrance and is topped by a large blind gable roofed dormer having flared eaves and whose gable end is sided diamond pattern wood shingles. The center window on the first floow of this bay has an elaborate leaded and bevelled glass transom above. To the left of the second floor of this bay us a semi-circular arched opening having an inset porch behind. All the features which typify the Queen Anne style residence are present in this fine design. The asymmetrical composition is dominated by a circular three-story-tall tower capped by a conical roof. A wide and spacious veranda encircles the north corner of the house. Each floor of the house is covered in a different wall material, with the first floor being of brick; the second of staggered pattern butt shingles; and the third of diamond pattern wood shingles. The house is further enhanced by its large size, good design, and its highly original and well maintained state of preservation. Also significant is the retention of the similarly treated and intact one-and-a-half story tall carriage house behind. Excellent carriage house behind house is two-stories tall and is separately photographed (113/20). Sided in wood shingles and is multi-gable roofed and rectangular in shape.
