SUMMARY
William and Annie McDermott House
109 S Park Avenue, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County
Date of Construction: 1899

William McDermott was a prominent Fond du Lac real estate developer and philanthropist who was an early champion of the creation of Lakeside Park. As a gift to the people of the community, he donated the money to construct the Lakeside Park Bandstand which soon became a popular gathering spot. He later donated over 14 acres of land for the creation of a public park on the city's east side. This park bears his name: McDermott Park.

William and his wife Annie had this house built for them in 1899. Designed in the Queen Anne style of architecture, it is one of the largest and finest examples of Queen Anne architecture in the city of Fond du Lac. This 3,500 square foot house retains hallmark features of the style including: a large, irregular plan; a raised, coursed stone foundation; wood clapboard and shingle siding; a corner tower with a conical roof; a two-story wrap-around porch with porte-cochere; leaded glass windows; modillions below the eaves; and a variety of projecting bays and dormers. The interior reflects the status of the original owners featuring a beautiful entrance hall, and expanses of stained hardwood paneling, window and door trim, pocket doors and floors.

This house is private property. Please respect the privacy of the owners.
