Access Brief Excerpts

• To read or listen to brief excerpts from the collection, begin by clicking on the "Excerpts" tab at the top of any page
• Choose a topic from the list at right
• Click the title of an excerpt
• Click the arrow on the player beneath "Listen to audio"

Access Full Transcripts

• To read the entire transcript of any interview, begin by clicking on the "Testimonies" tab at the top of any page
• Roll your cursor over a photo or name to see a brief biography
• Click on a photo or name to see the full biography and transcript links
• Scroll down and click the button reading, "Download entire transcript here"
• The entire text of the interview will open in a new window in PDF format

Access Sections of Transcripts

• To browse individual sections of the transcript of an interview, begin by clicking on the "Testimonies" tab at the top of any page
• Roll your cursor over a photo or name to see a brief biography
• Click on a photo or name to see the full biography and transcript links
• Scroll down to find transcripts arranged by tape and side number beneath Audio and Transcript Information
• Note: most tapes cover more topics than listed
• Click "View Transcript Page" to open the transcript at the designated point

Play or Download Audio

• To listen to or download audio for one tape side begin by clicking on the "Testimonies" tab at the top of any page
• Roll your cursor over a photo or name to see a brief biography
• Click on a photo or name to see the full biography and audio links
• Scroll down to find audio arranged by tape and side number
• Note: most tapes cover more topics than listed
• Note: audio files can take between 90 to 120 seconds to download to most computers

Search the Collection

• To search for key terms across all interviews, begin by clicking on the "Search" tab at the top of any page
• Select a search field to access a drop down menu
• Scroll down to your selected topic and click on it
• To refine your search, select topics from more than one field
• Click on the "Search" button at the bottom of the page
• A new page will appear with your search results
• Click on the result you would like to explore
• Survivor results: Open to biographical and historical information
• Transcript results: Open to the page indicated
• Audio results: Open to the tape that contains the topic selected, then click on the "Play" button to listen to the tape, the recording will start at the beginning of the tape
• Note: It is not possible to perform a full-text search across all interviews simultaneously at this time.

Search Within a Transcript

• To search within an interview, begin by clicking on the "Testimonies" tab at the top of any page
• Roll your cursor over a photo or name to see a brief biography
• Click on a photo or name to see the full biography and transcript links
• Scroll down and click the button reading, "Download entire transcript here"
• The entire text of the interview will open in a new window in PDF format
• Use the Search button (binoculars icon) in Adobe Reader to find words anywhere in the text
