Hearst Center for the Arts welsomes Cherie Dargan, contributor to the new publication The Sower and the Seer: Perspectives on the Intellectual History of the American Midwest.

The Midwestern landscape has given rise to significant visionaries whose extraordinary contributions have contributed to forming an American Identity. The essays in The Sower and the Seer examine individuals and movements whose stories establish the irrefutable significance of the intellectual history of the American Midwest. Dargan’s essay, “Mind & Soil: An Iowa Town That Grows Writers” explores Cedar Falls’ early history, examines several community organizations that fostered reading and discussing ideas, and explains how the community has honored its five best-selling authors.

Cherie Dargan is a retired community college instructor who reinvented herself in retirement: she is an active volunteer, a writer, blogger, and family historian working on a trilogy about a Midwestern family.
