"Old Vanderbilt" Locomotive
Upham Lumber Company locomotive, "Old Vanderbilt," built by the Taunton Locomotive Works in 1847 from the New York providence and Boston Railroad where she bore the name "Oregon." She was rebuilt and renamed C. Vanderbilt in 1860, sold to the Wisconsin Central Railway in 1880 and given the number 47 (the first), sold to the Upham Lumber Company in 1884, and used in Upham's extensive logging operations until dismantled in 1898. The engine (she) was blamed for starting the fire that burned Marshfield to the ground in 1887. The engineer is Ed Upham and the fireman is Frank Welch.
