Subject: "UD-18A — Irrigation." Where Taken: "SW." Information with photograph reads: "Owned by Delta Securities Co., Inc., Raceland, La. Used with Worthington 48-inch drainage pumps. Units are draining 4,400 acres of rich marsh land six feet below sea level. The water is lifted 8 ft. in the pumping station where it flows into a canal at the rate of 50,000 GPM. Crops are corn, clover hay and seed. The land is protected by dikes & the pumps are used to control water level. They are started when the rain falls & in the rainy season operate as much as required to prevent flooding. Photo by Elmer Weaver." |
