Portrait of Ojibwa chief Shingabawossin, who lived around the Sault Ste. Marie region. He fought in the 1783 Battle of St. Croix Falls and the War of 1812, the latter siding with the British. He was later a signatory to the Treaty of Sault Ste. Marie, the Treaty of Prairie du Chien, and the Treaty of Fond du Lac. |
