The Wisconsin Industrial School for Boys, formerly known as the State Reform School, opened in Waukesha in 1860 as a "house of refuge." Featuring extensive shop facilities and a 400-acre farm, the school housed between 300 and 400 boys in the early 1890s. By 1892, the school's costs to the state had totaled over $1.48 million. |
