Text on back reads, "NAPLES, The most thickly populated city of Italy and capital of the province of Naples, is located on the North side of the Bay of Naples, at the foot of Vesuvius, 118 miles South-East of Rome. It was founded by the Greeks some six centuries B. C. It is in the near vicinity of the old historic cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and is famous for its beauty of situation, its bay, and its women. The picture represents a Neapolitan woman in the provincial dress, which shows to advantage her Grecian type of beauty. The Singer Machine, on which rests her hand, has done its share in preparing the costume. In Italy, as elsewhere, it is the friend of the people." |
