Full-length cabinet card portrait in front of a painted backdrop of Carl Nielson [as written on published Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1 and on the Regimental Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20 ; written as Carl Nelson on card backing of portrait], a private in Company F, Wisconsin 15th Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Door County, Wisconsin. On February 2, 1862, he enlisted in Door County, Wisconsin and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on March 1, 1862, at the age of 32. He was in a hospital in Iuka, Mississippi starting August 20, 1862 and was eventually discharged on April 10, 1863 at Quincy, Illinois for disability. |
