John Castle Dairy Barn
View of the John Castle dairy farm, located off North Sherman Avenue near Darwin Road. The barn has its wall boards removed revealing a wood beam frame, a roof and a rubble stone foundation with window and door openings. It stands in the center of the road being constructed between Packers Avenue and Northport Drive (with an extension to the west of Northport Drive). The Castle family sold the farm in 1913 to Joseph Hurrzak who lived there for two years until his death. A nephew of Hurrzak, Roger Moore, inherited the farm and retained ownership until it was sold to the city for right-of-way. The farm was north of Truax Field. |
