SUMMARY
An elite 15-block residential area called the "Gold Coast," this district was inhabited by prominent business people and designed by leading architects. Located just north of the principal business district on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, these large mansions as well as moderate homes were built between 1861 and 1937 surrounding Water Tower Park with its fountain and tower. "Milwaukee harp luminary" street lights erected in 1915 enhance its urban residential ambiance.
