SUMMARY
These seven blocks of Milwaukee's central business district east of the Milwaukee River contain 56 historic commercial buildings of mixed business use built between 1856 and 1939 that illustrate the city's commercial development from the mid-19th century to WWI. The district contains outstanding examples of Italianate, Renaissance Revival, Second Empire, Queen Anne, Romanesque and Art Moderne commercial architecture.
