| Additional Information: | ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Brown brick Collegiate Gothic building designed in harmony with the older "Downer Quad" across the street. Construction date, 1910. (1) Milwaukee Downer Seminary, Classrooms and Offices, 1910-61. (1) UWM, Classrooms and Offices, 1961-present. (1) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Originally named Chapman Hall in memory of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Chapman, the building provided classrooms, offices, a gymnasium and a lecture hall for the Seminary. UWM re-named the building for Carroll G. Pearse (1858-1948), who was president of the Milwaukee Normal School from 1913 to 1923. |
