Comments from Past Institute Participant
" The institute is an excellent means for the exposure to different methodologies employed by other documentary projects. Meeting people from across the nation who are involved in documentary projects creates an atmosphere of exchange and sharing that will hopefully, as an ultimate goal, forward the field of documentary editing. I thought that the fostering of a relaxed, yet academic environment yielded the greatest potential for learning and professional growth. The discussions during each of the sessions combined with the advisors' comments and experience allowed for me to learn in an atmosphere that was traditionally discursive yet vivacious. The receptions, dinners and accommodations promoted a more casual setting and allowed one to follow up on ideas or questions that the sessions may have prompted. The institute provided me with the opportunity to network and foster professional contacts, which seems to be one of its greatest benefits."
"I think it was exceptionally well-organized, well conceived. I appreciated the range of faculty advisors and their willingness to share their knowledge and experience."
"The out-of-class interaction with Institute participants was wonderful and a great way to get perspective on my particular project. I appreciated the planned nightly dinner. . . Overall, an enjoyable and worthwhile week."
"The local arrangements were wonderful. Everything was convenient, and I enjoyed my stay immensely."
"All the presentations were very useful for presenting the questions that the members of each editorial project must answer for themselves. Having worked on only one project, I enjoyed learning of alternatives and thinking through the implications of different practices. The discussions and debates during the sessions were always thoughtful."
"I learned something from all the presentations. Selection and transcription were especially important to me."
"The entire program was extremely helpful to me, but particularly the presentations on transcription, annotation, and electronic publishing."
