Introduction:

The Wisconsin Historical Society - Museum Collections division is located at 816 State Street in Madison, Wisconsin. For additional information please see the Wisconsin Historical Society - Museum website.

Job Duties:

The duties involve all aspects of working as part of a team to physically inventory and image objects in the Museum's permanent collection. The applicant must be detail-oriented with neat handwriting. The position is part-time (24 hours per week, i.e. 3 days working 8 hours/week), scheduled between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday. The inventory project is expected to last 14 – 16 months.

Special Notes:

  1. A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
  2. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to hire only individuals who are eligible to work in the United States. Upon reporting for work, an individual will be expected to present proper evidence establishing employability.
  3. Verification of any academic degrees will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge and experience working with museum collections
  • Knowledge and skill in working with digital photography
  • Experience and skill in data entry
  • Experience using catalogue card and filing systems
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
